MIND OVER MATTER

At any given time, your mind can give up on you. It will tell you that you are not good enough, it will tell you that you are not going to do it, it will stack all of the odds against you. Why does it do this? To give you the opportunity to overcome it and welcome the beautiful art of self growth that nobody, other than yourself, can really understand within you.

During a conversation I was having with somebody recently who swam for over 17 hours straight in open water to complete a bucket list challenge, they told me that they would never have achieved the feat had they not been strong mentally. When you are in deep, excuse the pun, your mind is giving up on you, they say that your body is only at 40-50% of what it’s capable of and you have so much more to give.

Imagine swimming for 17 hours. Whether that’s in a pool or in open water, just imagine it. My first thought is one of amazement because it just sounds ridiculous but my second thought is one of the capabilities that we all have. You do not believe much is possible until you see or hear of somebody else doing it. Taking the 17 hour swim for example, it does not matter if you are the best swimmer in the world, you will fail if your head is not in a position to keep driving you on!

With my physical challenge for the year I am excited to learn more about my mind, my boundaries and conquering the mental blocks I have. I am sure there will be many! Like with anything in life, if you do not test yourself you never really know what you are capable of and if you are confident in the knowledge that it is mind over matter, you know exactly what you need to do... believe.

Try believing in yourself and pushing a limit within your life. No matter how big or small. Do not let your negative mindset take control over your positive outlook, drive through it.

YOU’RE PERFECTLY CAPABLE.
