THREE STARS

Growing up, especially when you go through the school system, it is all a popularity contest. Who has the most friends? Who is liked by everybody? Who is the most popular kid in school… etc. Nowadays, we have social media so that rolls out over a few more years. How many followers? How many likes? It continues. For me, it is all about three stars! Three people, not necessarily blood related but if you wish, they can be, that you have close to you.

‘Friends’ is a word I take really seriously and in honesty, I do not use it lightly. I believe friendship is something that works both ways, is supportive, trustworthy, honest, loving, respectful and encouraging. When you have all of those qualities back and forth with somebody consistently, you have found a close friend. The numbers on your social media followers list do not correlate to how many friends you have, by the way.

I thought about it yesterday when I was chatting to one of my clients. I am quite a recluse, keep myself to myself and do not do much by way of getting ‘out there’. I thought about it in detail and I have three stars in my life! These three stars are people I consider to be close friends whom I trust, respect, confide in and have done so consistently for a while. The idea of having these people in my life, supporting them as they support me, excites me because our friends are our chosen family.

Who do you consider to be your closest friends? Do you have a closest friend? It is ok if you do not, you do not have to. Some people like to go it alone! However, there is a beauty in true friendship that is unique in comparison to all else. Do not miss out on the opportunity to share life with somebody who you have no commitment to. It is quite a wonderful thing!

I go by three stars, not to say I wouldn’t have more, some people may have one and others may have more. However, I am so happy with my circle and I cherish it, every single day.

YOU’RE PERFECTLY CAPABLE.
