IT IS NOT WHAT YOU HAVE, IT IS WHAT YOU GIVE

Your greatness is not in what you have but in what you give. In my recent reading/listening of auto-biographies of successful CEO’s and suchlike, I have come to realise how different personalities are perceived. For example, from an outsider perspective, you may look at somebody who ‘has it all’ as someone who you may consider to be great. However, that person who lives a life of ‘look at what I have’ will offer nothing to you in conversation other than an egotistical slur.

People you see who may not flaunt or over exaggerate what they consider to be greatness but who give a lot of what they have on to help support, improve and encourage next generations, charities and suchlike are the kinds of people that face to face will offer you more value in terms of life lessons and from an advisory stand point. It is like social media, everyone seems to pay attention to the way something looks rather than the message being given.

If you want to leave a legacy behind and be remembered in order to have a strong influence on those who follow behind you, do not focus all of your attention on what you can have but focus more of your attention on what you can give. I will go back to my smile anecdote, making somebody else smiles has an immediate impact on how you also feel as well as them. Picture that in comparison with doing something that only makes you smile. It is not as lasting and does not impact anybody other than yourself.

If you spend all of your time focusing on what you have, you will soon come to realise that all your time has passed without little to know positive influence on anybody other than yourself. I do not think that will bring you the happiness or the satisfaction that you are after. However, spending your time lifting others up around you, giving and standing for, you will then leave a legacy behind that will offer to others rather than just be self focused.

It all comes down to what you want and where your value lie I guess. It is not such a bad things if all you want to do is focus on you but what a waste it would be if you did not pass on what you have onto others and open doors, opportunities and possibilities in the minds of others.

YOU’RE PERFECTLY CAPABLE.
